L to R: Kristen, Caleb, Adam, Lilian, and Ethan

In addition to Erin Taylor’s successful performances at the British Summer Swimming Championships, in Sheffield, five other Fins’ swimmers were at Loch Venachar, Callander, for the Scottish West District Open Water Championships, on Sunday 29 July, where they did exceptionally well to win two Scottish West District Open Age Group Titles, a bronze medal, plus a 4th and 6th placing.

While the weather was pretty damp it made no difference to the swimmers, the water conditions were a bit choppy and it was cold.

The two Championship winners were 12 year old Ethan Pate, 11/12 men, who won the 1 km title, finishing 12 seconds ahead of Charlie Lyne, Inverclyde, and 15 year old Kristin Mackay, 15/16 women, who won the 2 km title very comfortably from Katy Barron, Midlothian.

The bronze medal was won by 13 year old Adam Selbie, 13/14 men, in the 4 km, finishing behind Conner Aspinall, East Lothian, and Daniel Hendry, City of Glasgow.

12 year old Caleb Gray, 11/12 men, was 4th in the 1 km, after being knocked about a bit in the rough and tumble of open water swimming, and 11 year old Lilian Blair, 11/12 women, making her open water debut, who did well to gain a 6th place in the 1km.

This weekend coming the same five swimmers will be at Loch Semple, Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire, for the Scottish Open Water Championships.
