Fins Competitive Swim Club

Scottish Winter Meet

Two Fins’ Youth swimmers qualified for the final short course meet of the year, the Scottish Winter Meet, held at the Royal Commonwealth Pool, Edinburgh, which ran from Friday morning through to Sunday evening. This is a senior meet, no age groups, although youth categories of 16 years and under for girls and 17 years and under for boys are recognised. The meet itself was almost dominated by two university teams – Stirling and Edinburgh, and two city teams Glasgow and Aberdeen Performance.

The highest placed Fins’ Swimmer was 16 year old Erin Taylor who qualified from the heats to swim in the ‘B’ final of the Women’s 200m butterfly, finishing in 6th place, 14th overall. This put Erin as third placed Youth behind Laura Hodgson of Newcastle and Stella McCardie, City of Glasgow. Erin recorded a 0.48 second PB in her 200m Breaststroke finishing in 19th place overall and 6th placed Youth.

The other Fins’ swimmer was 15 year old Mark Scott and although he didn’t make it to any finals he did swim well considering he will still be a youth swimmer for another two years. Mark recorded two PBs, reducing his 400m individual medley by 1.74 seconds, and his 200m individual medley by 2.98 seconds, placing him 16th and 22nd respectively in the youth category, and was just 0.05 seconds off his PB in his 200m freestyle.

Mark Scott recorded PBs in his 400m IM and 200m IM. These moved him up two places in Fins rankings in both events from 15th to 13th in the 400m IM and from 17th to 15 in the 200m IM.

In the 15 years boys Scottish Rankings this places Mark 9th in the 400m IM and 11th in the 200m IM.
