Five Fins’ swimmers were in Aberdeen last weekend where they were competing in the Scottish Summer Meet, held in the 10 lane 50m pool, at the Aberdeen Sports Village.

This is the top age group event in Scotland for the first half of the year. Qualification for the event is the top 20 ranked swimmers in Scotland for each event, excluding those swimmers who qualify for the British Championships by gaining a top 20 UK ranking.

Fins did have a few more swimmers who qualified but for various reasons were unavailable.

Top swimmer for Fins was Caitlyn Dodds, 16 years girls, who won a total of three medals. Her top event was a silver medal in the 100m Backstroke. Caitlyn also won two bronze medals in the 50m and 200m Backstroke, and qualified for the finals in four more swims finishing 6th in the 100m Butterfly; 8th in both the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly; and 9th in the 100m Freestyle.

Fins only other medallist was Erin Taylor, 12/13 girls, who won a bronze medal in the 100m Breaststroke. Erin just missed out on a further two medals finishing 4th in both the 100m Butterfly and 200m Breaststroke. In her 200m Breaststroke she was just 7 one hundredths of a second off a silver and 6 one hundredths of a second off a bronze in a very close finish. Erin also finished 8th in the 50m Backstroke.

Esme Lee, 12/13 girls, had a 6th place finish in the 200m Breaststroke and was the fastest 12 year old in the event and retains her first place ranking in Scotland for this event.

Fins only other finalist was Sophie Juskowiak, 12/13 girls, who finished 8th in the 50m Butterfly and 10th in the 200m Breaststroke. Sophie also qualified in 9th place in the 100m Breaststroke but was unfortunately disqualified in the final for a technical infringement.

The fifth member of the team, who just missed out on a final swim was Catherine Comrie, 17/18 girls.
