Four Fins’ swimmers made an early, but successful, start to the second part of the year, over the last two weekends.
Last Saturday and Sunday, 7/8 September, the Scottish Masters Short Course Open and Age Group Championships were held at the Michael Woods Centre, Glenrothes.
The meet attracted a large entry including 23 clubs from outwith Scotland.
Vicky Jack, competing in the 40 to 44 years women’s age group, had five swims resulting in five Scottish medals including a gold in the 100m Butterfly, making her the Scottish Masters Champion in her age group in this event.
Vicky also won three silvers medals and one bronze. Her silver medals came in the 50m butterfly, behind Claire Eddie of Carnegie, 100m freestyle behind Lara Ferguson of Carnegie, and 100m individual medley, again finishing behind Claire Eddie.
Vicky’s bronze medal was in the 50m freestyle finishing behind Sarah Heaps of Newcastle, and Lara Ferguson.
Kimberley McCabe won her first ever National medal. Swimming in the 18 to 24 years women’s age group she took the bronze medal in the 200m backstroke behind Morven Adams of Dundee City Aquatics and Claire Thomson of Carnegie. In what was a very close race Kimberley won bronze by just one hundredth of a second.
Kimberly was also 4th in the 50m breaststroke and the 100m backstroke, 5th in the 200m individual medley and 10th in the 50m backstroke.
The Scottish North District Open Water and Open Championships were held on Saturday 31 August 2024, at a chilly Loch Insh Outdoor Centre, Kingussie.
Kristin Mackay, 15/16 girls had two excellent swims winning the 500m event by 23 seconds and the 3Km event by 44 seconds, and with the fastest time in all age groups in these two events Kristin was award the 15/16 years Open Championship Trophy.
Also, with two good swims Caleb Gray 13/14 years boys won a bronze medal in the 500m event behind Aiden Anderson of Garioch and Jensen Basketter of City of Glasow. Caleb just missed out on a second bronze finishing in 4th place in the 3Km event.
