Three Fins’ swimmers competed in the Scottish National Short Course & Open, held at the Royal Commonwealth Pool from Thursday through to Sunday, 5th to 8th December 2024. The meet attracted a large entry, with 101 clubs/teams taking part, including 48 from outwith Scotland. There was no age groups included.
Fins’ swimmers competed in a total of six swims and recorded four good PBs and the two swims that just failed to achieve a PB were just 0.83 seconds short and the other one just 6 one hundredths of a second short.
Fins’ top performance came from the youngest Fins’ swimmer, Adam Selbie, 14 years, who just had the one swim, the 200m backstroke. Adam’s time of 2 minutes 14.30 seconds was a 2.07 second PB and consolidates his 2nd place in the Scottish, 14 years male rankings, but still well behind Nikolai Sisnett of City of Glasgow, who is quite a bit taller than Adam and is exceptional for a 14 year old.
In terms of Fins’ all time top 50, Adam moves from 8th to 7th.
Also doing well was Kristin Mackay, 16 years, who competed in four swims, and recorded three PBs. She just missed out on a 4th PB in her 200m Butterfly which was held just a few events before her 1500m freestyle. Kristen went on to reduce her 1500m freestyle, previous best, by 10.82 seconds and her time of 18 minutes 11.85 seconds moves her from 4th to 3rd in the Scottish 16 years female rankings. Kirstin remains in 2nd place in Fins’ rankings, behind Erin Taylor, but the gap is now very doable.
Kristin recorded a 7.79 second PB in her 400m individual medley and her time of 5 minutes 17.88 seconds saw her Scottish ranking position improve from 14th to 8th, while her Fins’ ranking improved from 15th to 8th.
Kristin’s remaining swim was the 400m freestyle where she recorded a 0.87 second PB. However, her Scottish ranking remains unchanged in 8th position and her Fins’ ranking remains in 6th place.
Steven Pate, 17 years was the remaining swimmer, who finished just outside his PB in the 50m breaststroke.
A good end to the year and we now look forward to 2025.
