Fins had one swimmer at the Scottish Masters Long Course Spring Meet, held at the Aberdeen Sports Village on Saturday and Sunday 23/24 March 2024, with competitors coming from all over the UK, from Southampton to Thurso.

When Vicky Jack’s two children joined Fins two years ago, she decided she would like to get back into competitive swimming and the weekend was Vicky’s debut into Masters swimming, and it could not have been much more successful.

Vicky, who swam in the 40 to 44 years female age group, entered four events, winning three and finishing second in the other.

Her wins came in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, and 200m individual medley, and finished 2nd in the 100m freestyle. I believe that Vicky’s 50m butterfly was an all-time PB.

This is the first time in 25 years that Fins have had a swimmer in a Masters event, and what better way to start than at national level.

Hopefully this may encourage some 18 years and over swimmers to have a go at masters swimming and stay in the sport a bit longer. There is no upper age in the masters and I remember Jack Hale, of Hull, competing when he was 84 years young.
