Five Fins’ junior swimmers made the short trip to Lochore Meadows on Sunday, 4 June, to compete in the Scottish East District Open Water Championships, in what proved to be a very successful day, with two Open Wins, three District wins, an Open 3rd place plus two District second places.

The competition covers two categories, one Open to all swimmers, and one confined to East District swimmers, with swimmers coming from various parts of Scotland from Dumfries to Aberdeenshire.

The Junior events were in three age groups – 11/12; 13/14 and 15/16.

The weather was extremely kind with the water conditions fairly calm.

Fins top swimmer was Kristen Mackay, 15/16 Women, who won both the Open and the East District event and won the Junior Trophy for the fastest female junior swimmer with a time of 13 minutes, 16 seconds. Kristen was making a rare appearance for Fins, and while she is from Kirkcaldy, and is a member of Fins, her first claim club is currently Perth City as she attends school in Perthshire and trains with Perth City.

Another double Open and East District winner was Caleb Gray, 11/12 Men, who won that age group in a time of 16 minutes, 5 seconds.

Irys Blair, 13/14 Women, was an East District winner in her age group, with a time of 14 minutes, 26 seconds which also gave her 5th place in the Open. Irys will still be in the same age group next year.

Ethan Pate, 11/12 men, was 2nd East District swimmer with a time of 16 minutes, 59 seconds which gained him 3rd place in the Open.

The remaining swimmer was Adam Selbie, 13/14 men, who was second East District swimmer in a time of 13 minutes, 58 seconds, giving him 7th place in the Open. Again, Adam will still be in the same age group next year.
