The 2026 Open Water Swimming season got underway at Lochore Meadows Country Park Last Sunday with the SASA East District Open Water Championships and Open Championships

Kirkcaldy based Fins Competitive Swim Club had a successful day securing one district title, two district 2nd places, and one district 3rd place plus a further two top 10 finishes. In the Open category the swimmers achieved two silver medals, plus 5th, 6th, 14th, and18th places.

They also finished a very creditable 7th in the chain relay, with a relatively young team of Caleb Gray, Lilian Blair, Irys Blair, and Elliot Blair

Fins had a total of six swimmers competing in three different, two-year, age groups, 11/12, 13/14, and 15/18. However, only two Fins swimmers were awarded medals as this year only the winners of the district events were awarded a medal, while in the Open category the first three swimmers were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.

Fins’ top swimmer was Millie Whytock, 13 years female, who won the Scottish East District 13/14 female 1k Championship. Millie also won a silver medal in the open category finishing behind Esmay Anderson of the University of Aberdeen Swim Team

Fins’ other medal winner was Elliot Blair, 12 years male, who was 2nd in both the district and open events in the 11/12 years male 1k male behind Finlay Smith of Portobe ASC. The two swimmers were involved in a very close race which could have gone either way with only one second separating the two swimmers. Unfortunately for Elliot he had to settle for the runner up spot. There was no medal for the district 2nd but Elliot was awarded a silver medal for the open category.

Caleb Gray, 15 years male, was 2nd in the district 15/16 male,1k finishing behind Oscar Geary of Step Rock ASC Caleb also finished 5th in the open category

Lilian Blair, 14 years female, was 3rd in the district 13/14 female 1k finishing behind Millie and Sophie Taylor of Carnegie Swimming Club. Lilian also finished 6th in the open category.
