Fins Competitive Swim Club

Pathway to the Top

As a competitive club one of Fins’ aims is to provide all swimmers with the opportunity to realise their full potential.

This, however, will not be achieved without the swimmer playing their part in the process by working hard and learning from various experiences, including mistakes, but most of all by listening to what the coaches are saying.

A swimmer will not improve just because they want to. They must apply what they are learning in all training sessions and competitions, through their own experience and feedback from the coach.

One way of facilitating this process is for the swimmer, with the help of their coach, to set individual goals.

To assist this process, we will publish the ‘TOP 50’ club rankings, probably on a weekly basis, one stroke at a time, to let swimmers see how much they need to improve to, firstly get onto the rankings, and then what they need to do to move up the rankings. Again, it should be emphasised that the goals should be set in collaboration with your coach, and they should be realistic at any point in time.

Once you get towards the top of the club rankings it is very likely that you will still have some improvement to achieve and your goals will change to look at District, Scottish and even GB rankings.

Not everyone can be a World Champion but anything is possible.
