It has been a while since the last event was published and including this event there is still six events to go.

This event is the 50m Butterfly, and there is not a lot going on.

In the girls’ section the record was set by Stephanie Strang at the Fife

Championships in December 2017, with a time of 29.24 seconds. Two of the current squad members are in the top 50 and they are Erin Taylor, who is in 9th place with a time of 30.69 seconds, recorded at the Dunedin Meet in December 2019, and Grace Wilson who is in 38th place with a time of 33.71 seconds, set at the Fife Leagues in May 2022.

A half second improvement would see Erin move up to 4th place, and for Grace, it would move her up to 30th place.

For those aspiring to reach the top 50 the time required stands at 34.87 seconds.

For the boys the record was set by Greg Watson at the Scottish National Short Course Championships in December 2014, with a time of 24.93 seconds. There is one member of the current squad in the top 50 and that is Blair Wardlaw who is in 35th place with a time of 29.25 seconds, recorded at the Fife Leagues in May 2022.

Again, a half second improvement would move Blair up to 24th place.

For those aspiring to reach the top 50 the time required stands at 30.63 seconds.

Although there are currently no top 50 rankings for long course events mainly because, historically, there were very few long course meets as for many years there were only two long course pools in Scotland, the RCP in Edinburgh and East Kilbride Pool.

This has changed in the past 10 to 15 years and Fins started keeping long course rankings in 2010. These rankings are starting to build but currently there are no rankings in the girls 1500m freestyle and just four in the 800m freestyle. The largest number in the girls’ rankings is 34 in the 100m freestyle.

In the boys’ rankings the lowest number is four in the 800m freestyle and the highest is 24 in the 100m freestyle.

Following the 2nd round of EDAG, and previous long course events, Fins long course rankings of the swimmers who took part are:

Erin – 1st in both the 50m and 200m breaststroke; 4th – 50m butterfly.

Ben – 7th = 50m freestyle

Steven – 9th – 50m breaststroke; 11th – 50m freestyle.

Adam – 8th – 200m butterfly; 12th in both the 200m backstroke and 200m breaststroke; 13th – 50m backstroke; 14th – 50m breaststroke; 15th in both the 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly; 16th – 50m freestyle.

Ethan – 10th – 200m butterfly; 13th – 200m breaststroke; 14th – 200m backstroke; 15th – 50m breaststroke; 16th – 50m backstroke; 17th – 50m butterfly; and 18th in both the 50m and 200m freestyle.
