Fins’ two Open Water swimmers had another successful outing last Saturday when they travelled to Monikie Country Park, about 6.5 miles from Carnoustie, to compete in The Midland District Open Water Championships, which incorporates the Scottish Grand Prix.

There were two events designated as Grand Prix events and points were awarded for the single swim in which the swimmer achieved their highest placing.

Arran Stowe competed in both events, the Senior Men’s 5k and 3k winning gold in the 3k and silver in the 5k so this means that Arran will be awarded 25 points for his win in the 3k giving him maximum points (50) to date. There are now six Grand Prix events remaining with swimmer’s top four results used to determine the final placing in the Grand Prix.

Nicole Reynolds competed in one event and improved on her placing in the East District Championships by winning the silver medal in the Women’s 3k event. The number of Grand Prix gained by Nicole was 20, for her finish in the 3k. This gives her a total of 30 points overall and currently places her 3rd overall.

Congratulations also go to the mothers of both swimmers, Helen Stowe and Lesley Reynolds, who both passed their final assessment at the event and are now fully qualified Open Water Technical Officials. They are now both official whistleblowers.

The next Grand Prix event will be the North District Championships to be held on 20 July at Loch Morlich, near Aviemore, and this will be a 5k swim.
