Lothian Graded Meet
Five Fins’ swimmers were at Prestonpans last Saturday to compete in the Lothian Graded Meet. The five swimmers competed in a total of 18 swims, achieving 14 PBs, 3 silver medals, 1 bronze medal, and 4 top 10 finishes from a large entry. All swimmers recorded at least one PB.
Top swimmer in terms of achievement was Caleb Gray, 10/11 years boys, who won two silver medals in the 200m individual medley and the 50m butterfly; and a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke. Caleb also just missed out on a second bronze medal by 0.57 seconds, finishing 4th in the 50m backstroke. He also finished 9th in the 50m freestyle.
The remaining silver medal was won by Lillian Blair, 10/11 years girls in the 50m breaststroke, and was the fastest 10 year old in the event. Lillian’s other results were 10th in both 100m individual medley and 50m freestyle and 17th in the 50m butterfly.
Irys Blair, was 5th in the 100m breaststroke and 6th in the 200m individual medley, but the way it was organised Irys competed in the 100m Breaststroke along with other 12 year old girls, but the 200m individual medley was swum as 12 and over girls and was won by a 16 year old. Irys was the fastest 12 year old in the event.
The results for the remaining two swimmers were: Charlotte Wardlaw, 13/over girls, 14th – 100m breaststroke; 18th – 100m freestyle; and 24th – 100m backstroke. Sadie Paton, 10/11 girls, 20th – 100m individual medley; 22nd – 50m butterfly; 27th – 50m breaststroke; and 28th – 50m freestyle. Sadie’s four swims were all PBs and she was swimming in the wrong half of a double year age group.
The PBs recorded were not all massive improvements, but some of the times were recorded just two weeks previous at the Warrender JAGS Meet. The largest improvement came from Lillian who reduced her 50m breaststroke by 7.30 seconds. The next three top improvements came from: Charlotte, who reduced her 100m freestyle by 3.45 seconds Irys, who reduced her 200m individual medley time by 2.71 seconds, and Sadie, who reduced her 50m breaststroke time by 1.99 seconds.
Well done to all five swimmers who achieved yet another successful meet.
