Some Fins’ swimmers opted to compete in the East District Open Water Championships, while 5 swimmers made the trip to Prestonpans to compete in the Lothian distance meet, and their performances, achievements, and improvements can only be described as exceptional.

There was one overall winner in an event which included all ages male and female, plus 4 age group 1st placings, and 3 age group 2nd placings.

There were 2 new entries to the Fins ‘all-time top 50 rankings plus two improvements.

The two entries to the Fins’ rankings were at 47th place but pride of place must go to Millie Whytock, 12 years female, by virtue of her PB. In her 400m freestyle Millie recorded a time of 5 minutes 6.29 seconds, which gave her an incredible PB of 1 minute 3.14 seconds.

Again, we must lose a swimmer from the rankings, and on this occasion, it is Susan Whyte who set her time at Carnegie in February 1996. The new entry time for the 400m freestyle, female, is 5 minutes 9.94 seconds.

Millie was also one of the improvers in the rankings, moving from 43rd to 35th in the 400m individual medley, which she achieved with a time of 5 minutes 50.64 seconds, and a PB of 18.74 seconds. Millie was 1st 12 year old in the event.

The second new entry was achieved by Harvey Whytock, 15 years male, also in the 400m freestyle. Harvey recorded a time of 4 minutes 47.50 seconds and another good PB of 26.41 seconds.

This time the swimmer who drops out of the rankings is Gary Simpson who set his time at Whitburn in April 1989. The new entry time for the 400m freestyle, male, is 4 minutes 51.72 seconds.

Harvey also recorded a good PB in his 400m individual medley of 29.38 seconds, but his time of 5 minutes 35.87 seconds was just short of entry to the rankings by 1.16 seconds.

Harvey was 2nd 15 year old male in the 400m individual medley.

The second improver was Eva Watson, 14 years female, in her 800m freestyle, where she improved to the highest level in the rankings and the largest improvement from 32nd to 22nd. Eva achieved this with a time of 10 minutes 10.78 seconds and a 24.30 second PB.

Eva was 1st 14 year old female in the 800m freestyle, and was also 2nd in the 400m freestyle,

The swimmer who was outright winner was Kristin Mackay, 17 years female, who won the 1500m freestyle which included all the ages and both male and female swimmers.

Yet another very successful day for the swimmers and the club.

Thanks once again to Laura McQuade for the photo.
