Fifteen Fins’ swimmers were at the Michael Woods Centre, Glenrothes, last Saturday for the Fife Schools’ Championships, where they achieved some excellent results. Swimmers are allowed to compete in a maximum of three swims with at least one being 200m or over.

Six of the swimmers won a total of eleven Fife Schools Championship Titles. In total the swimmers contested 37 swims and in addition to the 11 wins they also achieved 7 silver, and 8 bronze medals, plus a further 11 swims that finish in 8th place or better.

Two of the swimmers won all three of their events and they were Erin Taylor (Balwearie HS), 12/13 girls, who won the 100m and 200m Breaststroke and the 200m Butterfly. Erin’s Time of 2 min. 26.08 seconds in her Butterfly was 1.24 seconds faster than her time at the Scottish National Short Course Championships; and Caitlyn Dodds (Auchmuty HS), 16/O girls, who won the 100m and 200m Backstroke and the 100m Freestyle. Caitlyn’s time in the 100m Freestyle of 59.86 seconds is her first time under the one minute mark.

Theo Goodfellow (Balwearie HS), 16/O boys, won both the 100m and 200m Breaststroke and was 5th in the 10m Freestyle.

Sophie Juskowiak (Bell Baxter HS), 12/13 girls, won the 200m Individual Medley and silver medals in the 100m Breaststroke and 200m Backstroke.

Esme Lee (Balwearie HS), 12/13 girls, won the 100m Backstroke and a silver medal in the 200m Breaststroke.

The remaining winner was Callum MacDonald (Balwearie HS), 16/O boys, taking the title in the 100m Backstroke. He also finished 4th in the 100m Freestyle.

The other medallists and finishing placings were:
Neža Dolenc Luznar (Balwearie HS), 14/15 girls – silver medal in both the 100m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle, and a bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle.
Erin O’Connor (Viewforth HS), 14/15 girls, – silver in the 100m Breaststroke; bronze in the 200m Breaststroke; and 5th in the 100m Freestyle
Steven Hardie (Cardenden PS) 11/U boys, – silver in the 50m Breaststroke; 8th in the 50m Freestyle.
Mark Scott (Balwearie HS), 12/13 boys, – bronze in both the 100m Backstroke and 200m Freestyle; and 4th in the 100m Freestyle.
Kimberley McCabe (Viewforth HS), 16/O girls, – bronze in the 400m Freestyle; 5th – 100m Breaststroke; 6th – 100m Freestyle.
Holly Armit (Balwearie HS), 12/13 girls, – bronze in the 100m Breaststroke; 6th – 100m Butterfly.
Eireann Comrie (Inverkeithing HS), 14/15 girls, – bronze in the 200m Individual Medley; 6th – 100m Backstroke.
Blair Wardlaw (Balwearie HS), 14/15 boys, – bronze in the 200m Backstroke; 7th – 100m Freestyle.
Bethany Michie (Balwearie HS), 16/O girls, 6th – 100m Breaststroke.

As a result, Erin Taylor, Caitlyn, Theo, Sophie, Esme, Neža, Erin O’Connor, Steven, Mark, Holly, and Blair have been entered for the Brodies Scottish Schools Championships to be held at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow on 26 January 2019.
However, not all entries are guaranteed acceptance as it is only the top 20 times in each event (10 for the 17 to 19 years) that are accepted to swim.
