Thirty two Fins’ swimmers were back in action following the summer break, 26 in the Fife League and 6 in the Novice League, round 3, held at the Michael Woods Centre in Glenrothes last Sunday, and once again both groups provided some very encouraging results. It was also good to see some new names competing in both the league and novice league.

In the League the 26 swimmers contested 48 individual swims, gaining 10 – 1st; 7 – 2nd and 7 – 3rd placings. These were achieved by 16 different swimmers, or 62 %.

They also achieved 39 PBs or an 81% improvement rate. The majority of PBs were between 1 and 4 seconds but an outstanding improvement came from Abby Morris, who reduced her 100m Freestyle by 18.05 seconds. The next best came from Adam Selbie, who reduced his 200m backstroke by 8.46 seconds and Irys Blair who reduced her 100m butterfly by 7.34 seconds.

The top performance came from Erin Taylor, who set another new club record, her 9th record this year, for the 50m breaststroke in a time of 33.75 seconds. This reduced the previous record, which was set by Erin at the East District Championships, in January this year, by 0.76 seconds, which obviously keeps Erin at the top of the Fins’ all-time top 50 short course ranking for the 50m breaststroke.

In addition to Erin there were six further changes to the top 50 rankings, three improvements and three entries. These were achieved by four swimmers:

Blair Wardlaw, who moves from 29th to 18th in the 50m backstroke. Blair also enters at 44th place in the 50m freestyle, as a result of his time in the first leg of the 4x50m freestyle relay. Dropping out is Callum Smith who set his time at the Fife League in June 2012. The time to beat for anyone to enter the boys top 50 in the 50m freestyle is now 27.62 seconds.

Steven Pate, who moves from 37th to 35th in the 100m breaststroke

Grace Wilson, who enters at in 37th place in the 50m freestyle, and as a result Jennifer Gordon drops out, but the good news for Jennifer is that an improvement of just 0.02 seconds, or better, would see her make a return. The time to beat for anyone to enter the girls top 50 in the 50m freestyle is now 31.11 seconds. However,

Jennifer moves from 47th to 43rd in the 100m butterfly and enters in 50th spot in the 50m backstroke replacing Julie Davidson who set her time at the Falkirk meet in November 2017. The time to beat for anyone to enter the girls top 50 in the 50m backstroke is now 36.54 seconds.

Eight swimmers achieved a win in the League and they were:

Adam Selbie, 8 to 12 boys, who had two wins in the 100m butterfly and 200m backstroke

Also, with two wins was Ethan Pate, 8 to 12 boys, in the 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle.

In addition to the individual swims Fins had four relay teams achieving two 2nd placings, plus 7th and 8th placings. All relays were mixed (2 male plus 2 female) 4x50m freestyle.

The 12 and under team of Adam, Irys, Ayva, and Ethan was 2nd as was the 15 and over ‘A’ team of Blair, Erin, Jennifer, and Mark.

The 13/14 team of Charlotte, Medeea, Lukas, and Alastair was 7th, and the 15 and over ‘B’ team of Ellen, Wiktor, Grace, and Steven finished in 8th place.

In the Novice League there were 6 swimmers who competed in 12 swims and this has got to be one of, if not, the best performance from the younger swimmers.

The 12 swims produced 5 – 1st places, 2 – 2nd, and 2 – 3rd placings, and all swims were PBs.

Two of the swimmers won their two events and they were:

Lilian Blair, 8 to 10 girls, 1st in both the 25m and 50m backstroke, and

Jessica Christie, 8 to 10 girls, 1st in both the 25m and 50m breaststroke

The remaining winner was Sadie Paton 8 to 10 girls, who won the 25m freestyle and was 3rd in the 50m breaststroke.

The two swimmers to gain a 2nd placing were:

Siobhan Law, 11/12 girls, who was 2nd in the 25m breaststroke and 3rd in the 50m breaststroke, and

Taylor Deacon, 11/12 girls, who was 2nd in the 25m backstroke and 7th in the 50m freestyle

The remaining swimmer was Samuel Dick, 8 to 10 boys, who finished 5th in both the 25m backstroke and 5m freestyle.

Well done to all the swimmers.
