Thirty four Fins’ swimmers were in action at the recent Fife Leagues and Novice Leagues, 25 in the Leagues and 9 in the Novice Leagues, which were held at the Michael Woods Centre, Glenrothes.

In the Fife Leagues, Fins’ swimmers produced their most successful performance so far with fourteen of the swimmers winning a total of twenty events and for the first time all 25 swimmers had a top ten finish. This included the first four swimmers home in the 15 and over girls’ 50m Butterfly.

Overall the swimmers produced 20 wins, 5 seconds, 7 thirds, and 13 top 10 finishes, and they recorded a good 72% improvement rate.

Six of the swimmers had double wins and they were –

Ben Lewis, 13/14 boys, 1st in both the 50m and 100m Butterfly

The top four improvements came from –
Kimberley McCabe who reduced her 50m Butterfly by an incredible 37.14 seconds. The reason this was so high was that this was the first time Kimberley had competed in this event since November 2014 in the Fife Novice League.
Esme Lee reduced her 200m Butterfly by 14.67 seconds; Blair Wardlaw reduced his 200m Butterfly by 8.84 seconds; and Ana Doherty reduced her 100m Backstroke by 8.78 seconds.

In the Novice League the swimmers also had a good day. The nine swimmers competed in 13 swims, two beat the time band, there were two wins, one second place, one third place, three swims in the top 10, and the swimmers recorded a 92 % improvement rate.

The two swimmers to beat the time band were Fern Selbie, 10/O girls, in the 50m Backstroke, and Finn Doherty, 10/O boys, also in the 50m Backstroke, and Finn also gained a 7th place finish in the 100m Individual Medley

The two wins were by Niamh Doherty, 9/U girls, in the 25m Backstroke, and Gemma Ewing 10/O girls, in the 50m Breaststroke. Niamh also gained an 8th place finish in the 50m Butterfly.

The 2nd place went to Georgia Johnston, 10/O girls, in the 50m Breaststroke, and the 3rd place to Grant Wardlaw, 10/O boys, in the 50m Butterfly.

The remaining top 10 place came from Grace Wilson, 10/O girls, who was 7th in the 50m Freestyle.

Three improvements of note came from Gemma, who reduced her 50m Breaststroke by 20.14 seconds; Grace, who reduced her 50m Freestyle by 6.59 seconds; and Fern, who reduced her 50m Backstroke by 6.51 seconds.

The remaining two swimmers, who just missed out on a top 10 placing, were Ciaran Burns (10/O); and Mollymina Kirkwood (10/O)
