Fins Competitive Swim Club

Fife Leagues Round 2

This is a very belated report from round 2 of the Fife Leagues that were held on 6 June 2022, at Michael Woods Centre in Glenrothes.

The reason for the delay is that the official results were not published until recently and there is no guarantee that all swims were recorded.

The good news is that the swimmers did exceptionally well and it is only right that their efforts are acknowledged.

It appears that twenty nine Fins’ swimmers participated, five in the novice league and twenty four in the league. Overall, both groups competed in a total of 54 swims, of which 46 resulted in PBs, giving an excellent improvement rate of 85%.

In the league there were 44 individual swims which resulted in 8 – 1st; 8 – 2nd; and 8 – 3rd placings. The full Fins’ results are:

In the 12 and under age group the Fins’ team of Irys, Ayva, Ethan Pate, and Adam finished in 3rd place.

The 15 and over team of Jennifer, Grace, Wiktor and Mark finished 5th, and the 13/14 team of Charlotte, Medeea-Miriam, Alastair, and Campbell finished 8th.

The top four PBs were achieved by:

Jennifer Gordon, who reduced her previous time by 20.33 seconds in the 200m backstroke, and her 100m butterfly by 9.70 seconds

Grace Wilson, who reduced her 50m freestyle time by 15.41 seconds

Steven Pate, who reduced his 200m individual medley by 10.85 seconds.

A feature of the club reports recently has been about ‘Pathway to the Top’ which looks at the top 50 all-time club rankings and what swimmers need to do either to enter the rankings or progress up the rankings, and while no one moved up the rankings two swimmers entered them for the first time.

The top entry at 37th place was achieved by Heidi Mellon in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 40.07 seconds and a 5.60 second PB.

The second swimmer to gain entry, this time at 47th place was Jennifer Gordon in her 100m butterfly in a time of 1 minute 15.59 seconds, and Jennifer also enters in 50th place in the 50m freestyle with a first leg time of 31.12 seconds in the relay, and a third swimmer, Grace Wilson, just failed to enter the rankings, again in the 50m freestyle, with a time of 31.13 seconds, just one hundredth of a second behind Jennifer.

The five novice league swimmers also did well with their 10 swims producing two 1st and two 3rd places. Most of the swims were first time swims in their particular events and the full Fins’ results are:

Samuel Dick, 8 to 10 boys, 1st – 25m breaststroke; 3rd – 25m freestyle

Sam Mackay, 11/12 boys, 1st – 25m backstroke; 6th – 50m backstroke

Rachel Harris, 8 to 10 girls, 7th in both the 25m backstroke and 25m breaststroke.

So, we now look forward to round 3 of the Fife Leagues on the 18th September
