Fins’ swimmers were in action over the past two weekends in two long course events.

Last Saturday and Sunday 12 swimmers were at the Royal Commonwealth Pool, Edinburgh, for the Scottish East District Open Championships and the previous Saturday and Sunday 17 swimmers were at the Aberdeen Sports Village, Aquatics Centre, for the University of Aberdeen International Meet.

At the Royal Commonwealth Pool, the swimmers achieved one silver medal, 12 other ‘A’ final placings, and 8 ‘B’ final placings.

Not surprisingly, following considerable progress at recent long course competitions, the improvement rate was down to 33%. However, there was one improvement that was very significant for one swimmer.

There were no age groups in the competition but there were ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals for most evets with the top eight times in the heats qualifying for the ‘A’ final and the next eight for the ‘B’ final.

Top swimmer for Fins at the Championships was Euan Pate who recorded the largest PB of the weekend. In the heats of the 200m Butterfly, Euan qualified for the ‘A’ final in fourth place because of an 11.47 seconds PB. In the final Euan reduced his time by a another 1.11 seconds to move him up a further two places and gain a Senior East District silver medal.
Euan also qualified for the ‘B’ final of the 100m Butterfly, finishing in 7th place (15th overall).

Arran Stowe, four ‘A’ placings – 5th – 100m Butterfly; 6th – 200m Freestyle and 8th in both the 50m and 100m Freestyle. He also had one ‘B’ placing finishing 9th in the 200m Individual Medley. Arran also recorded the second top improvement reducing his 200m Freestyle by 5.88 seconds.

Caitlyn Dodds, 5 ‘A’ placings – 6th in both the 50m and 100m Backstroke; 7th in both the 100m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke; and 8th in the 50m Butterfly. Caitlyn also had two ‘B’ placings finishing 9th in both 50m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly.

Neža Dolenc-Luznar, had one ‘A’ and one ‘B’ finishing 6th in the 800m Freestyle; and 9th in the200m Butterfly.
Theo Goodfellow, had one ‘A’ and one ‘B’ finishing 7th in the 100m Breaststroke and 11th I the 400m Individual Medley.

Catherine Comrie, had one ‘A’ and two ‘Bs’ finishing 7th in the 200m Breaststroke: 12th in the 50m Breaststroke and 14th in the 50m Backstroke.

The remaining six swimmers who qualified for the Championships were – Michael StrangErin TaylorEsme LeeSophie JuskowiakEireann Comrie; and Rhianna Henderson.
