Scottish Midland District Open Water Championships
Three of Fins more experienced open water swimmers swam in the recent SASA Midland District Open Water Championships which were held at Monikie Country Park, Dundee.
The swimmers all competed in the longer 5k events and achieved one silver medal and two 4th placings.
The silver medal was won by Caleb Gray 15 years male, in the 14/15 years age group. Caleb finished under 3 seconds behind the winner, Lewis Morgan of the University of Aberdeen Performance squad, which over 5K is negligible.
The two 4th places were achieved by Lilian Blair, 14 years female, in the 1415 years age group, and Irys Blair, 16 years female in the 16 yeas age group.
Lilian’s event was won by Esmay Anderson of the University of Aberdeen Performance Squad who finished well ahead of the rest. 2nd was Skye Petrie of Monifieth, with Freya Edie of Step Rock in 3rd finishing 57 seconds ahead of Lillian.
Irys’ event was also a comfortable win for Ava Gill of Carnegie, with Lucy Mitchell of Garioch in 2nd, and Mhairi Mackintosh of Step Rock in 3rd who finished 53 seconds ahead of Irys.
The next Open Water event is the Scottish National Open Water Championships, in July, and while the age groups will be different the 5K event also serves as a qualifier for the English Open Water Championships with the first three swimmers, in single years, qualifying.
