Warrender End of Season Meet – 13/14 June 26
Fourteen Fins swimmers competed in the Warrender End of Season Meet, held over two days at the Michael Woods Centre in Glenrothes.
In total they competed in a total of 62 swims and returned a reasonable 66% improvement rate. It should be said that a good number of non PBs were very close and with a lot of meets recently this is to be expected. There were however some really good PBs recorded and nine of those produced improvements in the swimmers’ position in the Fins;’ all-time top 50 rankings. There was also a new entry, which is always good to see.
The swimmers also achieved 6 wins, 5 – 2nd, 1- 3rd, plus a further 15 top 10 placings and overall, a successful weekend.
Fins top swimmer at the meet was Lilian Blair, 14 years female, who had three wins and five seconds. Lilians wins came in the 200m freestyle, 200m butterfly, and the 200m backstroke, while her 2nd placed swims were 100m and 200m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, and 200m individual medley. Lilian reached the 2nd highest point in the Fins’ rankings in both her 200m breaststroke, where she moved from 19th to 13th with a 1.78 second PB. This was also the 2nd largest improvement at 6 places. She also moved from 15th to 13th in her 200m individual medley when she recorded a 1.12 second PB.
Lilian had a further three ranking movements. In her 200m backstroke she moved from 21st to 16th with a 1.53 second PB. In her100m breaststroke she moved from 20th to 19th where she recorded a 0.34 second PB, and herr final movement came in her 100m backstroke, moving from 27th to 26th with a 0.32 second PB.
Millie Whytock, 13 years female, had just three swims but certainly made the most of them winning her 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke, and finishing 4th in her 100m breaststroke.
However, there was a lot more to Millie’s swims. In her 100m backstroke Millie recorded a 0,87 second PB, but that was enough to propel her up to the highest point in the rankings over the weekend, moving from 22nd
to 11th, and that was also the largest movement of the weekend. In her 200m freestyle Millie moved up the rankings from 26th to 23rd with a 1.93 second PM.
She also recorded a 5.94 second PB in her 100m breaststroke giving her a time that is now just 0.66 seconds off the current ranking.
The final Fins’ winner was Cole Gray, 13 years male, in his 200m backstroke, and he was 5th in his 100m freestyle.
Cole recorded a 2.11 second PB in his 200m backstroke in a time which brings him to 0.80 seconds away from the Fins’ rankings.
Sadie Paton, 13 years female, was 3rd in her 200m butterfly, 7th in both her 200m breaststroke and 200m backstroke, 9th in her 100m breaststroke, and 12th in her 200m freestyle.
Jack Campbell, 14 years male, was 5th in his 50m freestyle, 6th in his 100m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, and 200m backstroke, 8th in his 100m freestyle, and 9th in both his 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly.
Jack recorded some good PBs in his 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley, and 200m backstroke, but a bit more improvement is needed to qualify for entry to the rankings, his closest being 7 seconds short in his 100m backstroke.
Harvey Whytock, 15 years male, was 5th in his 200m butterfly, 15th in his 200m freestyle and 20th in the 50m freestyle. In his 200m butterfly Harvey moved up the rankings from 30th to 28th with a 1.41 second PB.
Elliot Blair, 12 years boys, 7th in his 100m backstroke, 9th in his100m freestyle, and 11th in hisand 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 100m breaststroke, and 100m butterfly.
Elliot recorded PBs in five of his swims namely 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 59m freestyle, 200m freestyle, and 100m butterfly, the best of which was a 4.37 second PB in his 100m breaststroke. As mentioned in previous reports it is difficult for a 12 year old male to reach the qualifying times for the rankings but Elliots closest of the events from the weekend is 3.85 seconds away from his 50m freestyle, which is not easy but the main thing is that Elliot continues to improve and close the gap on all his events.
Caleb Gray, 15 years male, was 8th in his 200m breaststroke, and 10th in his 200m individual medley.
In his 200m breaststroke Caleb recorded the 4th largest PB of 13.07 seconds, but more importantly his time of 2 minutes 53.19 seconds gains him entry to the rankings in 42nd place, meaning that we lose Matthew Livesay, who set his time at Whitburn in Mey 1988. The time now required for entry to the rankings is 2 minutes 56.77 seconds.
Caleb also recorded a good PB of 7.81 seconds in his 200m individual medley, leaving him 2.16 seconds off the entry time for the rankings.
Summer Ramshaw, 14 years female, was 8th in her 200m freestyle, 11th in her 100m breaststroke, and 14th in the 50m freestyle.
In her 200m freestyle Summer recorded the 2nd largest PB of 17.92 seconds, but is still quite a bit away from the rankings, but certainly a lot closer than she was. Summer also had a small PB in her 50m freestyle but is still 3.15 seconds away from the rankings.
Mark Sinillov, 13 years male, was 11th in his 100m breaststroke and 13th in both his 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly.
Mark recorded PBs in all three swims with his highest being in his 50m freestyle at 2.87 seconds, and while he continues to improve, he still has a bit to go to reach the rankings, but certainly moving in the right direction.
Chelsea Walker, 12 years female, was 17th in her 200m freestyle, 19th in both he 50m and 100m freestyle, 21st in her 50m butterfly, 23rd in both her 100m breaststroke and her 100m backstroke, and 27th in her 50m backstroke.
Chelsea had a very successful weekend and in her 50m butterfly recorded the largest PB of 23.66 seconds. She also recorded good PBs in her 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, and 200m freestyle, and in her 100m backstroke she equalled her previous best.
Like Mark, Chelsea still has a bit to go to reach the rankings with her closest time being 2.02 seconds in her 50m freestyle.
The main thing is she continues to improve and is getting closer to the rankings.
Olivia Bak, 13 years female, was 19th in her 100m butterfly, 21st in her 100m backstroke and 22nd in both her 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
Olivia recorded a 2.66 second PB in her 100m backstroke and her 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley were both 1st time swims.
As with the previous two swimmers Olivia still has a bit improvement to do to reach the rankings, but is moving in the right direction.
Leyton Neilson, 12 years male, was 21st in his 50m breaststroke, 22nd in his 200m freestyle, 24th in his 100m backstroke, and 31st in his 50m freestyle.
In his 100m backstroke, Leyton recorded the 3rd largest PB of 16.48 seconds, but is still a bit away from the rankings. He also recorded a 2.65 second PB in his 50m breaststroke. As with the swimmers above Leyton just needs to keep his improvement going.
Eilidh Needham, 12 years female, was 36th in her 50m breaststroke, 53rd in her 50m backstroke, 55th in her 100m freestyle, and 59th in her 50m freestyle.
Eilidh recorded PBs in both her 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle, and her 50m Backstroke was a 1st time swim. Again, like the swimmers above, Eilidh is moving in the right direction and all she can do is to keep that trend going.
