Fins Competitive Swim Club
Fife Leagues and Novice Leagues – 6 June 2026
Fins had a total of 31 swimmers at the Michael Woods Centre for the Fife Leagues and Novice Leagues.
There were 18 League swimmers who swam in a total 35 swims with a bit lower improvement rate of 66%. They did, however, manage to achieve 6 wins, 8 – 2nd, and 7 – 3rd placings, and all the swimmers outwith those achieved a 5th place, or better. There were some very good PBs recorded which impacted the Fins’ all-time top 50 short course rankings with two improvements, two new entries, which is always good to see, and one no change.
In the Novice Leagues 13 swimmers swam in a total of 26 swims, and while most were 1st time swims 11 of the swims were repeat swims which meant there was an improvement rate of 85% and again some very good PBs.
The Novice swimmers achieved 7 wins, 4 – 2nd, and 4 – 3rd placings, which covered all bar three of the swimmers and they all achieved a 6th place or better.
Fife Leagues
There were two double winners namely, Millie Whytock, 13 years female, and Elliot Blair, 12 years male, but Millie had an effect on the rankings with two improvements plus one no change.
Millie won both the 100m freestyle and 400m individual medley. In her 100m freestyle she recorded a time of 1 minute 2.20 seconds, a PB of 1.06 seconds which meant she moves from 23rd to 17th in the Fins’ rankings.
In her 400m individual medley, she recorded a time of 5 minutes 30.63 seconds, and recorded the 3rd largest PB by a Fins’ swimmer of 11.09 seconds. This moves her 8 places up the rankings from 27th to 19th.
Millie also swam the first leg of the relay where she recorded a small PB of 0.13 seconds. However, this did not affect her position in the rankings, which remains unchanged at 26th.
Elliot won both the 200m breaststroke and 400m individual. As a 12 year old male, there would be no expectations of Elliot having any impact on the rankings but the main thing is that he continues to improve, which he did by recording a 2.94 second PB in his 200m breaststroke and a 2.81 second PB in his 400m individual medley.
Chelsea Walker, 13 years female, won her 200m freestyle and was 2nd in her 100m backstroke. In her 200m freestyle Chelsea recorded the 2nd largest PB of 12.62 seconds but she will still have to reduce her times a good bit yet to be looking at the rankings, but getting there.
Jack Campbell, 14 years male, won his 50 butterfly and was 3rd in the 50m freestyle. While Jack recorded PBs in both events he is still just over 2 seconds away from the rankings in his 50m freestyle and just under 3 seconds away in his 50m butterfly.
Sadie Paton, 14 years female, was 2nd in her 400m individual medley and 3ed in her 50m breaststroke. Sadie’s 400m individual medley was a 1st time swim in this event but her time of 6 minutes 5.83 seconds was good enough to ensure entry to the rankings in 41st place. This means that we lose Medea-Miriam Gorea from the rankings, having set her time at the Swim West Lothian meet in February 2023. The time now required to gain entry to the ranking for this event now stands at 6 minutes 23.49 seconds.
Eva Watson, was 2nd in her 100m breaststroke and 3rd in her 100m backstroke. Eva recorded two good PBs, reducing her 100m breaststroke by 4.67 seconds, and her 100m backstroke by 3.06 seconds. Her times, while closer do not meet those required for entry with her closest being just over 3 seconds in her 100m backstroke.
Cole Gray, 14 years male, was 2nd in his 400m individual medley and 4th in his 200m freestyle. In hi 400m individual medley Cole recorded the largest PB of 15.93 seconds and his time of 5 minutes 32.07 seconds was just good enough to gain him entry to the rankings in 50th place. Unfortunately, the swimmer to drop out is a current swimmer, Harvey Whytock, who set his time earlier this year at the East District Age Groups in January. The time now required for entry will be that recorded by Cole.
Jamie Hughes, 15 years male was 2nd in his 200m breaststroke, and 5th in his 100m freestyle. Jamie’s 200m breaststroke was a 1st time swim in this event and in his 100m freestyle he recorded a good 3.06 second PB. Both events are still quite a way of the required ranking times.
Mark Sinilov, 13 years male, was 2nd in his 100m freestyle and 5th in his 50m freestyle. Mark recorded a good PB in his 100m freestyle of 4.88 seconds. However, similar to other swimmer he has still got quite a bit of improvement required to be challenging the rankings.
Elizabeth Janowska, 11 years female was 2nd in her 100m butterfly, and 8th in her 200m freestyle. Both of Elizabeth’s swims were 1st time swims in those events but again quite a way off from the rankings., but getting there.
Lily May McDonald, 11years female, was 2nd in her 100m freestyle and this was her only swim in the leagues. In her 100m freestyle she did record a small PB and although she is not yet looking at the rankings, for an 11 year old she is not all that far away and if she keep improving is may not be that long before she is challenging, Just over 7 seconds to go.
Summer Ramshaw, 12 years female was 3rd in her 200m butterfly and 4th in her 50m backstroke. Summer’s 200m butterfly was a 1st time swim in this event and again quite a bit of improvement required to reach the rankings, and over recent weeks Summer has been doing just that.
Leyton Neilson, 13 years male, was 3rd in his 50m butterfly and 4th in his 200m individual medley. Leyton’s 200m individual medley was a first time swim at this event and the only other comments would mirror those for Summer.
Chloe Arnold, 14 years female, was 32d in her 100m butterfly and 4th in her 50m butterfly. Chloe’s 100m butterfly was a first time swim in this event and yet again any further comment would be the same as those for Summer and Leyton.
Olivia Bak, was 3rd in her 50m butterfly and 7th in her 100m freestyle.
The remaining three swimmers were
Harvey Whytock, 16 years make, who was 4th in his 200m individual medley and 6th in his 59m freestyle. In his 200m individual medley Harvey recorded the 4th largest PB of 9.15 seconds but his time takes him to just over 7 seconds off the rankings. Harvey also recorded a 0.52 second PB in his 50m freestyle with a time of 28.25 seconds which means thar he just needs a further improvement of 0.58 seconds to enter the rankings.
Kimberley McCabe, 24 years female, was 4th in her 50m breaststroke and 6th in the 100m backstroke. Unfortunately, both were just outside her PBs
Eilidh Needham, 12 years female, was 5th in both her 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke, and recorded a PB in her 100m backstroke. Again she continues to improve but is still a bit off t6he rankings.
Novice Leagues
Because the novice swimmers tend to be younger and less experienced there will be no impact on Fins’ rankings.
There were no double winners in the novices so 7 of the 13 swimmers recorded a win.
Just missing out on a double win was Cain Gray, 9 years male, who won his 100m freestyle and was 2nd in his 100m breaststroke. Cain’s 100m breaststroke was a 1st time swim in this event,
Logan Watson, 12 years male, won his 50m freestyle and was 3rd in his 50m backstroke. Logan recorded the 3rd largest PB, for a Fins’ novice swimmer, of 2.38 seconds in his 50m freestyle, and his 50m backstroke was a 1st time swim in this event.
Elliott Brook, 11years male, won his 25m breaststroke and was 3rd in his 25m freestyle. Elliott’s 25m freestyle was a 1st time swim in this event.
Emily Livingstone, 10 years female, won her 25m backstroke and was 4th in her 50m breaststroke. Both were 1st time swims.
Luke Gilhooley, 13 years male, won his 100m freestyle and was 5th in his 50m backstroke. In his 100m freestyle Luke recorded the largest PB of 8.83 seconds. He also recorded a 1.01 second PB in his 50m backstroke.
Tilly Duncan, 11 years female, won her 25m breaststroke and was 5th in her 25m butterfly. Both were 1st time swims.
Isla MacLennan, 9 years female, won her 25m breaststroke and was 6th in her 50m backstroke. Isla recorded the 4th largest PB of 2.26 seconds in her 25m breaststroke, and her 50m backstroke was a 1st time swim.
In the 11 to 13 years age group Fins had two teams in the 4x50m freestyle relay.
The ‘A’ team of Luke, Sophie, Tilly, and Logan gained a 2nd place, while the ‘B’ team of Stanley, Jessica, Elliott, and Sophia finished 8th.
