Seven Fins’ swimmers were at the Royal Commonwealth Pool, to compete in the East District Summer Sizzler, with the purpose of trying to improve their times. From a total of 47 swims 60% of the swims resulted in PBs or 28 in total.

A swimmer’s finishing position, in an event, didn’t really matter, but what did was that they were looking to improve. As this was a long course event there was certainly an impact of the Fins’ long course rankings which does give an indication of how much improvement was achieved.

Overall, there were 13 new entries, which is good to see, as we continue to build up the rankings. There were also 5 improvements where there was usually a small movement in the rankings and unfortunately for a further 7 swims where the swimmer recorded a PB but it was insufficient to change their position in the rankings.

The highest new entries were achieved by Harvey Whytock, 15/16 years male, who had three new entries in 17th place and they were achieved in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 39.75 seconds; 50m backstroke, with a time of 37.26 seconds, and 50m freestyle with a time of 29.56 seconds.

Harvey also entered the 50m butterfly in 18th place with a time of 32.84 seconds; the 100m breaststroke in 19th place with a time of 1 minute 29.11 seconds; the 100m freestyle in 22nd place with a time of 1 minute 4.03 seconds; and the 100m backstroke in 24th place in a time of 1 minute 21.38 seconds.

Elliot Blair, 11/12 years male, had two new entries finishing the 100m butterfly in 23rd place with a time of 1 minute 34.01 seconds; and the 50m butterfly in 25th place with a time of 42.09 seconds.

Elliot also recorded three further PBs but, unfortunately, they resulted in no change to his current ranking.

Summer Ramshaw, 13/14 years female, had three entries to the rankings, finishing in 30th place in the 50m backstroke, with a time of 42.36 seconds; 31st in the 50m breaststroke, in a time of 47.84 seconds; and 33rd in the 100m breaststroke, in a time of 1 minute 42.24 seconds.

Sadie Paton, 13/14 years female, had one entry to the rankings and that was in the 100m butterfly, in 31st place with a time of 1 minute 33.37 seconds. Sadie also had three improvements which moved her from 31st to 28th in the 50m breaststroke with a 1.65 second PB; 30th to 29th in the 50m backstroke with a 0.41 second PB; and from 36th to 35th in the 50m freestyle with a 3.24 second PB.

Chelsea Walker, 11/12 years female, achieved the final three entries to the rankings, which were 33rd in the 50m backstroke with a time of 47.40 seconds; 34th in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 49.44 seconds; and 43rd in the 100m freestyle with a time of 1 minute 25.73 seconds, and this looks as though it could be the first event to fill the 60 spaces.

Cole Gray, 13/14 years male, had three improvements in total moving from 22nd to 21st in the 50m breaststroke with an 8,32 second PB. Unfortunately, his PBs in the 100m butterfly and the 200m individual medley were not enough to make any change to his ranking positions,

Caleb Gray, 13/14 years male, had two improvements but again, unfortunately were not enough to make a change in his ranking position in his 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

Fins long course rankings are slowly filling up but there is still quite a way to go in most events. Perhaps we will be able to add more swimmers from the National Championships and the summer meet.
