Sixteen Fins’ swimmers were in action at the Michael Woods Centre at the Warrender End of Season Meet, over the two days. Overall, they contested 71 swims recording 45 PBs, which equates to an improvement rate of 63%, which is down a bit, but not as bad as it appears. While there were some very good PBs there were also quite a few marginal PBs because the swimmers had set their time two weeks previously at the Carnegie Spring Meet, and likewise some of the non PBs were marginal for the same reason with one swimmer losing out by just one hundredth of a second, and another gaining a one hundredth of a second PB. So, once again, I would class it as another successful weekend.

Ages used at the meet were age on the day.
The swimmers achieved 5 – 1st placings, 6 – 2nd and 3 – 3rd, plus a further 28 top 10 finishes and there are changes to the Fins all-time top 50 rankings, but from only two swimmers who achieved three new entries and seven improvements, between them.
Again, it is difficult to choose a Fins’ top swimmer between Millie Whytock, 10 to 12 years female, and Lilian Blair, 13 years female. Millie had two entries, including the highest entry position and Lilian had five of the movement up the rankings including the highest movement position.
Millie won the 50m and 100m backstroke and the 200m individual medley, and was 2nd in the 50m free backstroke in a time of 33.40 seconds and 4.15 second PB, entering in 19th place.
The swimmer who drops out is Emma Simpson, who set her time at Ainslie Park in October 1995. The time now required for entry is 36.14 seconds.
Millie’s second entry was in the 200m individual medley in a time of 2 minutes 43.30 seconds and a 13.02 seconds PB, which was the 3rd largest by a Fins’ swimmer. This enters Millie in 50th place and this time we lose Claire Edwards who set her time at Glenrothes in August 1995. The new entry time is Millie’s time above.
Millie’s two movements up the rankings came in the 50m freestyle and 100mbackstroke. In the 50m freestyle she moved from 47th to 34th with a 0.59 second PB, and her 100m backstroke she moves from 47th to 45th with a 0.39 second PB.
The Scottish age group rankings for the Warrender meet have now been published and Millie’s excellent 4.15 second PB for her 50m backstroke places her at No.1 in the 12 years Scottish rankings, moving up from 5th place.
Similarly in her 200 individual medley she moves from 4th to 2nd place, just 0.98 seconds away from Grace Taylor of Alford Otters, and in the 100m backstroke Millie remains in 3rd place, but closes the gap on Anglo Scot Emmaline Eales of Kingston Royals, in 1st place, to 0.61 seconds, and Emmie Murray of Buckie, in 2nd place to just 0.36 seconds.
Lilian had 7 swims, winning her 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle, she was 2nd in her 200m butterfly, 200m individual medley, and 200m backstroke, 5th in the 50m freestyle and 7th in the 100m breaststroke.
Lilian’s entry to Fins’ rankings was in her 50m Freestyle in a time of 29.38 seconds and a 1.23 second PB, which enters the rankings in 22nd place. Apologies to Lilian, she should have already been in the top 50 from a previous swim.Dropping out is Kirsty Davis who set her time at the FIRST Meet in January 2017. The entry time now required is 30.77 seconds.
Lilian had two swims that reached the highest ranking in terms of movement. In both her 200m individual medley and 100m freestyle she moves from 22nd to 18th, Her improvements were 1.34 and 1.57 seconds respectively but the 100m freestyle was particularly pleasing in a time of 1 minute 2.00 seconds, having set her previous best at the Carnegie Spring meet two weeks ago.
In her 200m butterfly Lilian achieved the largest movement up the rankings, moving 26 places from 48th to 22nd with a time of 2 minutes 44.53 seconds and a 15.65 second PB, which was the 2nd largest by a Fins’ swimmer.
Lilians remaining two moves up the rankings came in the 200m Backstroke where she moved from 24th to 20th, and in the 100m butterfly where she moved from 24th to 23rd.
In terms of the 13 years female Scottish age group rankings and despite a marginal PB of 0.25 seconds, Lilian’s 100m butterfly time of 1 minute 11.33 seconds takes her to No. 1 spot in the rankings, but less than a second ahead of the 2nd ranked swimmer.
In her 100m freestyle Lilian remains in 2nd place in the Scottish rankings, but has closed the gap on Anglo-Scot, Madisyn Markell, of Guilford City, to 0.94 seconds.
Cole Gray, 12 years male, was 2nd in the 200m individual medley, 3rd in both the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly, 4th in the 100m freestyle and 5th in the 100m breaststroke.

Summer Ramsden, 10 to 12 years female, was 18th in the 50m breaststroke, and 22nd in the 200m freestyle. Summer’s 200m freestyle was a first time swim so that sets her PB and in the 50m breaststroke she recorded a 1.79 second PB.

Antonia Adie, 10 to 12 years female was 34th in the 100m backstroke, where she recorded a 0.58 second PB.
This was a difficult meet, with a large number of entries, especially following on from a very successful Carnegie meet but, as already mentioned, this can still be regarded as a successful weekend.
Thanks, once again, to Laura McQuade for supplying the photos.
