East District Age Group Championships

27/11/2017
Seven Fins swimmers competed in 11 individual swims at the Scottish East District Age Group Championship, First Round, held at the Michael Woods Centre, Glenrothes, last Saturday and Sunday. In addition, three relay teams also competed.

Unfortunately, this is only a partial report as a power cut on Sunday afternoon led to the Championships being abandoned. For Fins this meant that an eighth swimmer and three relay teams were unable to compete. There are still two rounds of the Championships to be run and these will take place in January and February next year. The remaining swims from round 1 will take place but at this point in time it is not known whether they will be held as a separate meet or be incorporated into the two remaining rounds.

There were no individual medals won at the weekend but Fins’ top swimmer just missed out on a Bronze medal by seven tenths of a second. Of the eleven individual swims six gained a top ten placing.

All the individual swims were 400m and above and Fins top swimmer was Neža Dolenc-Luznar, 14 years girls, who was 4th in 400m Freestyle, 5th in the 800m Freestyle and 6th in the 400 Individual Medley.

Mark Scott, 11/12 boys, and Claire Thomson, 17 and over girls, both had a 7th place, Mark in the 400m Freestyle and Claire in the 400m Individual Medley.

The remaining top ten finish was achieved by Arran Stowe, 17 and over boys, who was 9th in the 400m Freestyle.

Two swims stood out in terms of improvement and they were Mark Scott who reduced his 400m Freestyle by 16.16 seconds and Theo Goodfellow, 16 years boys, who reduced his 400m Individual Medley by 7.86 seconds.

The two remaining individual swimmers were Blair Wardlaw (14), and Eireann Comrie (15).

A further seven swimmers competed in the relay swims. Top team was the 13/14 Mixed 4x50m Freestyle team of Sophie Juskowiak, Neža Dolenc-Luznar, Blair Wardlaw, and Ben Lewis, who won the Silver Medal, beaten to the gold by Warrender Baths Club, Edinburgh.

Just missing out on a medal was the 17/18 Mixed 4x50m Medley team, of Catherine Comrie, Sam Lewis, Claire Thomson, and Callum Macdonald, that finished in 4th place.

The 15/16 Mixed 4x50m Freestyle team of Eireann Comrie, Caitlyn Dodds, Michael Strang, and Theo Goodfellow, finished in eighth place.
