Five Fins’ swimmers made the times, for the Age Group events, at the Edinburgh International Meet held at the Royal Commonwealth Pool last Friday through to Sunday. With a very large contingent from south of the border, as far down as St. Ives and over to the Isle of Man, and teams from Ireland, Germany, Denmark, and Serbia the swimmers found the competition very stiff.

However, despite no medals, they had a good weekend with a respectable improvement rate of 59%.

Top swimmer for Fins was 14 year old Caitlyn Dodd, 14 and under girls, who wasn’t too far away from a medal in her 50m Backstroke where she finished in 4th. place just 16 one hundredths of a second behind a swimmer from Preston and was 2nd Scot. She was also 3rd Scot in both her 100m Backstroke and 100m Butterfly where she finished 5th and 7th respectively, overall.

The only other swimmer to achieve a top ten finish was 17 year old Arran Stowe, 17/18 boys, who finished in 8th place overall in 400m Individual Medley and was 4th Scot.

Another swimmer who was 3rd Scot home in the 17/18 boys, 100m Backstroke, although still 16, was Kyle Pate, who finished 12th overall.

The remaining two swimmers were Greg Turner, 17/18 boys, and Claire Thomson, 15/16 girls.

The most improved swimmer was Arran who reduced his 200m Breaststroke by 12.53 seconds and he also reduced his 400m Individual Medley by 3.65 seconds.
